TADCASTER Albion waved goodbye to the FA Cup for another season after losing 2-0 at home to local rivals Farsley Celtic in the second qualifying round.

James Walshaw got the visitors up and running from the penalty spot before Paul Walker scored following a mistake by Albion goalkeeper Charlie Murphy.

Tadcaster were awarded a penalty of their own with twenty minutes to play but Tom Corner wasted the opportunity to give his side a lifeline when his spot-kick was saved by Farsley goalkeeper Graham McKibbin.

Manager Billy Miller made three changes to the side which beat Clitheroe with Murphy deputising for goalkeeper Michael Ingham, Jimmy Beadle replacing Charlie Binns, and Rob Youhill preferred to Conor Sellars.

The two sides failed to score when meeting in the league just over two weeks ago but the deadlock was broken after just eleven minutes on Saturday.

Defender Liam Shepherd was adjudged to have fouled Richard Marshall just inside the box and Walshaw stepped up to score from the spot and give Farsley the lead.

Farsley looked dangerous as they dominated possession and pushed the Brewers back. Ross Daly and Walshaw both came close to extending Celtic’s lead but couldn’t quite force Murphy into saves.

Tadcaster looked unusually lack-lustre as Farsley continued to pile on the pressure.

Defender Ryan Serrant had a chance to make it 2-0 but fired wide from an inside left position.

Tadcaster finally created a good chance of their own five minutes before the break when Jonathan Greening’s ball was latched onto by brother Josh whose rasping half volley was kept out by McKibbin.

The Farsley goalkeeper almost went from ‘hero to zero’ in less than sixty seconds after completely missing a corner kick but, fortunately for McKibbin, there was no yellow shirt on-hand to turn the ball home.

Despite a poor first half, Brewers manager Miller made no substitutes at the interval and his side initially started the second half the brighter.

Josh Greening was put in down the left once more but the forward fired narrowly over the target.

Tadcaster’s bright start swiftly evaporated, however, when Celtic doubled their lead. Marshall’s looping header across the goal area was dropped by goalkeeper Murphy and Walker reacted quickest to score from five yards.

The goal deflated the Brewers and the visitors continued to get more and more time with the ball. Marshall and Walker both came close to adding a third.

Sellars’ introduction as substitute injected a new lease of life into Tadcaster as they looked to salvage something from the tie in the final 20 minutes.

They were handed a lifeline in the 70th minute when referee Dean Craig pointed to the spot for the second time in the game after Serrant clipped the heels of Corner.

The fouled player grabbed the ball and stepped up himself to take the kick but his penalty was well saved by McKibbin which knocked the stuffing out of the home side.

The Brewers had one final chance to pull a goal back when Youhill put Corner in on goal but, once again, the striker was denied by Farsley goalkeeper McKibbin.

Tadcaster’s focus now returns to the league campaign and tomorrow’s trip to Ossett Town in Evo-Stick First Division North.

They barely got out of first gear this weekend - but credit has to go to Farsley who have now nullified Tadcaster’s potent attack on two consecutive occasions.
