POPPLETON netted the York FA Under-14s Intermediate (Junior) Minor Cup with a fine 2-0 victory over Dunnington at Bootham Crescent.

It took just three minutes for Poppleton’s Pat Mackle to open the scoring, as he tapped in a loose ball in the six-yard box to put his side in front.

Poppleton remained on top during the first 20 minutes until Sam Dyson went close for Dunnington with a 15-yard drive, which was well saved by Harry Griffiths.

James Swift also went close for Dunnington as he hit the ball at the advancing keeper.

After the break, Josh Craine almost scored as his shot went wide of the Dunnington upright, but he made sure on 51 minutes as he placed the ball in the Dunnington net from close range to ensure Poppleton were worthy winners.

The trophy, sponsored by Construction Marine Ltd, was presented by York FA Secretary Barry Casterton.
