OLD Malton St Mary’s added the York FA Saturday Senior Cup to their York Minster Engineering League crown after a dramatic penalty shoot-out.

The final against Pocklington Town ended goalless, with Saints winning 5-3 on spot kicks.

The Ryedale side had enjoyed the better of the opening ten minutes but Pocklington, on the back of some solid defending, forced their way into the game and went closest before the break when a Rob Eeles header flashed just wide.

In the second half the heat and hectic end to the season took its toll.

Old Malton’s Damon Cox had a rare chance after 65 minutes but fired wide from ten yards with only Pock keeper Carl Silburn to beat.

Malt rallied during the last five minutes. Cox went close again with a close-range header, Scott Nicols beat three defenders only to fire the ball at Silburn, and Cox again headed over from close range.

However, all was not in vain, as Saints won the shoot-out.

The cup, sponsored by Stoneplan Ltd in memory of Bob Whitworth, was presented by York & District FA president Roy Ellwood.
