PICKERING Town's derby at home to Bridlington Town attracted the best attendance of the day in the Toolstation Northern Counties East League.

After Darren Whatling has passed the pitch as fit for play, a crowd of 176 saw visitors' striker Brett Agnew put them ahead in the second minute with a shot from the edge of the area.

However, the sixth-placed Pikes bounced back to lead 2-1 at half-time after a far-post header from Joe Danby in the 23rd minute and a well-taken goal by Mitchell Hamilton 16 minutes later.

But parity was restored a minute into the second half by Agnew, and he got a late winner for fourth-placed Bridlington.

Knaresborough Town, who are ninth, needed to win at sixth-placed Shirebrook Town to maintain their play-off hopes.

Oliver Beaumont put the home side ahead after 72 minutes but substitute Colin Heath levelled nine minutes later with his first touch for a club that are still coming to terms with the retirement, after 20 years, of their chairman Terry Hewlett and the death of their president Geoff Waite, who served the club for more than 65 years.

Geoff's funeral will be at St John's Parish Church, Knaresborough, on Friday, April 15 (1.15pm), followed by a toast to his memory afterwards in the clubhouse.

A Robert Hopley brace (11th and 64th) and an Alex Titchiner goal (21) gave Witton Albion a 3-2 win at home to Scarborough Athletic, whose replies came from Jamie Forrester (17) and Glenn Matthews (81), while second-from-bottom Harrogate Railway Athletic went down 2-1 at Ossett Town, Amar Purewal getting the visitors' only goal in the 35th minute to counter efforts from Danny Frost (20) and Sam Rodgers (78).

In Vanarama National League North, fourth-placed Harrogate Town notched their first win in seven league matches by defeating struggling Stalybridge Celtic 2-1 at the CNG Stadium, and even that winner came in time added-on.

The home side went ahead in the 32nd minute after a Brendon Daniels cross was headed into his own net by Jack Higgins but, against the run of play, Celtic were back on level terms just past the hour when a long ball found Aidan Chippendale, who crossed for Chris Simm to scramble the ball into the net.

The game was in its 95th minute when Daniels' 25-yard free-kick flew into the top corner.
