STORM Kate put paid to Pickering Town's hopes of a quick return to winning ways after their 10-match unbeaten run in the Northern Counties East League premier division was ended at Worksop on Saturday.

Paul Marshall's side were geared up for a tough test at Staveley Miners' Welfare yesterday but an inspection of a waterlogged pitch in Chesterfield quickly ended hopes of play.

All the other bank holiday fixtures in the division also fell foul to the wet weather and the Pikes must now turn their attention to Saturday's derby clash with third-placed Bridlington Town.

Meanwhile, Tadcaster Albion will be hoping the weather does not claim tonight's fixture at Garforth, kick-off 7.45pm.

The Brewers were held to a goalless draw by Cleethorpes on Saturday and Handsworth Paramore's victory at Parkgate enabled them to open up a four-point lead.

The Sheffield side are due to be back in action tonight at Liversedge, who are currently bottom of the league.

Selby Town of Division One are also due to play as they meet Hull United, although the fixture has been moved to the Fairfax Plant Hire Stadium because United's pitch is unfit. They are playing all their remaining fixtures at their opponents' grounds.
