QUAKERWOOD hammered hosts Hambleton 6-0 to move within four points of York Sunday Morning League division one leaders Wigginton Grasshoppers.

Alex Day opened the scoring with a delightful chip before Richard Kendall smashed in an unstoppable shot.

The second half saw Jake Moyse score his first goal for Quakerwood, and Jake Duckworth extended the lead after a mazy run.

A coolly taken Ryan Day penalty followed and the icing was put on the cake when Duckworth ran past five players from his own half before placing his shot into the far corner.

Ryan Whitlam was on target for Bubwith White Swan but his side lost 3-1 to Malt Shovel.

The division two title race is hotting up with six teams holding realistic chances.

Brayton and Thorpe hold the top two positions, and the sides couldn’t be separated during a double-header last weekend, both matches ending 1-1.

In the first game, James Newnhan converted a Curtis Swain cross to give Thorpe a 1-0 half-time lead but this was cancelled out early in the second period by Will Cleary.

The second match saw Shaun Gandy give Thorpe the advantage before Patrick Guest levelled with the last kick of the game.

Third-placed NUR's chances were hit as Cliffe took the bulk of the points from their two games.

Danny Cotton struck for NUR in their first game but an own goal gave Cliffe a draw. Cliffe wont he second game 2-0 thanks to goals from Tom Collins and Nathan Parker.

Cliffe are now only nine points off the top with games in hand.

York Phoenix maintained their challenge with a 4-3 win over Knapton Lions.

Tom Norton (2), Danny Phillips and Brodie Doherty netted for Phoenix while Callum Watson and Dan Conway (2) replied for Lions.

Marcia Bishopthorpe kept themselves in the title hunt with a 5-0 win over Beeswing.

Tom Lazenby bagged four in Selby Olympia’s 6-1 win at Haxby United. Matt Boggan had scored for Haxby to take the sides in level at half-time but the second period was all Olympia’s as goals from Dave Whisker and Josh Knowles supplemented Lazenby’s efforts.
