SELBY TOWN finally got back into action with a win in midweek and boss Dave Ricardo is hoping to record a quick Northern Counties East League division one double.

The Robins hadn't been in competitive action since December 8 before a 3-1 home win over Rossington Main on Tuesday night. Dronfield Town are next up at Flaxley Road and, with as many as seven games in hand on some of their rivals, Ricardo is keen to start closing the gap on the table's top ten.

"I was chuffed and it was a good day all round," he said of the Rossington win. "They had probably played six times since we last played and we were missing a couple of players. New striker Luke Thompson netted on his debut and settled into the team well.

"Our fitness was good and it was an ideal return as well as three points. We have still got a lot of games in hand and we will have to go game by game."

On Dronfield, he added: "They have suffered from the weather and they haven't played many games whatsoever. I am hoping there will be elements of rustiness but we will be missing Tom Chamberlain, who picked up a hamstring strain on Tuesday night and will be out for a couple of weeks.

"We welcome back Chris Jackson, who was away, and Jordan Cooper will also be back in the mix. There will be a couple of late fitness tests for Brenton Leister and Alex Robinson."

Ricardo also praised the behind the scenes work that has got the team back into action.

He said: "I want to congratulate the committee for getting the pitch in a playable state. It was quite heavy but was more than good enough to play football on and a lot of hard work has gone on behind the scenes from the committee, groundstaff and supporters."

Tadcaster Albion's inaction has seen them drop to fifth in the NCEL premier division table but they will hope to finally get back on the pitch when they travel to Brigg Town.
