THE downpours curtailed all but two games in the York Sunday Morning League and they were both hugely one sided, writes Graham Ireton.

In division one, Hambleton inflicted a heavy 9-1 defeat on Britannia Tadcaster, a win which moved them out of the relegation zone.

In division two, Brayton ran out 14-1 winners on a boggy pitch at Dennison Road against a depleted Wentworth side.

After early pressure, Brayton’s opening goal came from a Paul Tiffany cross which evaded everyone and ended up in the top left hand corner of the net.

The home side were soon two up after Jack Seal converted a penalty and Will Cleary pounced on a defensive mix-up to make it 3-0 to Brayton shortly afterwards.

Kyle Wilks slotted home just before the break to increase the home side's advantage to four.

Brayton really came out of the traps in the second half, with Cleary adding another four along with Seal, Joe Krygsman, Ged Christian and brothers Patrick and Robert Guest also making the score sheet with a goal each.

Wentworth scored a consolation effort, with their striker rounding goalkeeper Meaney, only to see Tiffany score with the last kick of the game - sealing Brayton’s fifth consecutive victory and closing the gap on the top two.
