F1 RACING provided a minor shock in the York Minster Engineering League premier division - with a 4-3 defeat of Wigginton Grasshoppers which launched them firmly back into the most open title race for seasons.

Neil Yeowart scored early for F1 but, playing against the wind, they saw few further opportunities in the first half.

Grasshoppers pushed on and drew level with a low shot from Jamie Green.

The visitors then surged ahead when Gary Newton headed home after Green's shot cannoned back off the crossbar and Jamie Willstrop slotted home from close range.

F1 pushed on in the second half but failed to convert early chances. Chris Dempsey reduced the arrears but, with 15 minutes left, Dan Huggins saw red for F1 with Dale Lumley taking over in goal.

Down to ten men, F1 continued to press and Chris Dempsey got his second to level with three minutes left. Following more F1 pressure, Danny Penrose popped up at the far post to score a last minute winner, following a great cross, to secure a massive three points for F1.

Leaders Huntington Rovers had a 50th minute 20-yard curling strike from Chris Dyson to thank for a 1-0 victory over Dringhouses which moved them four points clear at the top.

Dunnington continue to stalk the leaders, though, and can close the gap to within a point if they win their game in hand.

A hat-trick from player-manager Matthew Wain helped them to an 8-2 triumph over Harrison Signs. Martin Day (2), Tom Richards and two own goals completed their haul. Neil Fryirs and James Allerton hit two late goals for Signs.

Defending champions Riccall United continued to creep into contention as they moved up to fourth place with a 5-1 win over Brooklyn. Wayne Brook scored twice with Steve Lyon, Will Ramsay and Alan Jackson also on target. Mikey Brown replied.

York RI suffered a 2-1 home defeat at the hands of a revived Tadcaster Magnets side. Leigh Dutton struck for the hosts but a brace from Emilio Triumbari was enough for Magnets to claim the points.
