SELBY Town manager Dave Ricardo has been left "extremely annoyed" at the way Goole acquired the services of striker Chris Jackson.

Jackson signed for the Evo-Stik League division one north side last week and netted their winner on his debut against Sheffield FC.

Ricardo heaped scorn on Vikings manager Alan Semley’s handling of the move.

“I was extremely annoyed with the way Goole went about it,” he said.

“If I am looking to sign someone, I always call their manager to see the circumstances of the player’s availability. In my circle of contacts, everyone does exactly that.

“The Goole management team didn’t do that.

“I don’t know if I’m old school or what, but I thought it was disrespectful.

“To engage in text message contact only, and not to pick up calls, was underhand of them. There are certain ways things should be done and they didn’t do them.”

Jackson ended last season as the Robins’ top marksman and scored five goals in ten Northern Counties East League division one games this term.

Ricardo said he harboured no ill feeling towards the striker.

“I have no bones with Chris. I’d like to wish him all the best,” he said. “I can’t argue with his desire to compete at a higher level. He is a great goalscorer who I’m sure will do well for them.”

Selby go into tomorrow’s home game against Rossington Main on the back of an encouraging 3-3 draw at Emley, and they will be able to call on brothers Jordan and Brodie Cooper, midfielders signed from Hallam this week.

Meanwhile, Billy Miller believes there must be a "clear pathway" for players from the i2i academy into the first team at NCEL premier division high-fliers Tadcaster Albion.

Prospects from the under-21s Casey Stewart and Marcel Chigimura have signed with the firsts, while Alfie Beestin and Ryan Woodhead in particular have been involved with the senior side this season.

Miller said: “I was keen on bringing through youth when I came, but it wasn’t easy because we had a large squad.

“Now it’s more of a manageable size, we can have the process of rotation and get them involved in the first team and learning the trade.

“We have discussions with all of the members of the coaching staff about the players coming through, in order to make sure there is a clear pathway.”

On the recruits, the Brewers boss believes developing their mental toughness will be crucial. “Their technical ability is of the highest order, as is their understanding of the game," he said.

“Our role is to put them in an environment where they are playing against men who want to win and it doesn’t matter whether they are 17 or 27.”

Thackley visit Ings Lane on Saturday having won their last three games, but will face an in-form Tadcaster side who blew away fourth-placed Handsworth Parramore 4-1 last weekend.

Pickering Town mounted a stunning fightback against Albion Sports on Wednesday night - coming from 2-0 down to win 5-2, thanks chiefly to a hat-trick from Ryan Cooper, plus goals by Ged Dalton and Matthew Turnbull.

Nial Tilsley was a surprise starter, while Denny Ingram also appeared from the bench in the closing stages.

After three wins on the bounce for the first time this term, the Pikes make the longest journey of their season to Rainworth tomorrow.

Knaresborough Town return to action at home to Hallam.

In the Evo-Stik League, Scarborough Athletic, lucky to get a late division one north win over basement side New Mills last Saturday, had shoot-out fortune in midweek as they knocked premier division neighbours Whitby Town out of the Doodson League Cup 4-3 on penalties.

Ryan Blott had twice given Boro the lead in normal time of this first round derby, the Blues equalising through Mike Roberts, from the spot, and, in the dying minutes, Dave McTiernan.

The Seadogs go to lowly Farsley Celtic on Saturday in the league, while struggling Harrogate Railway host Kendal Town.

Railway threw away a 2-0 half-time lead courtesy of Jack Stockdill and Stephen Bromley on Monday night to lose 3-2 to

Stocksbridge Park Steels in the Doodson Cup, Matthew Reay getting an 87th-minute winner.
