DIVISION one Nomads dispatched lower league NUR in the only game to be played in the York Sunday Morning League Cup.

Despite two goals from Danny Cotton, NUR could do nothing to combat the Nomads' firepower. They were 7-2 winners thanks to goals from Dan Andrew (2), Chris Bilton (2), Craig Hargreaves, James Edmond and Kevin Smith.

The only division one game saw defending champions Wigginton Grasshoppers edge past Bubwith White Swan 4-3.

Wiggy were gifted the lead when Tom Nicholson's 18-yard drive was spilled into the Bubwith goal before Jordan Holt doubled the advantage - forcing the ball over the line at the fourth attempt.

Bubwith replied with a neat move in the second period which saw Howson score, only for John Cavanagh to restore the home side’s two goal cushion minutes later.

With all of their substitutes used, Wiggy were reduced to ten men when Joe Galloway suffered a bad knee injury and Bubwith took full advantage - a fantastic cross resulting in a spectacular volley from Howson which made it 3-2.

Jamie Willstrop added a fourth for ‘Hoppers, after a solo run, before keeper Scott Pallister saved a penalty. Leon Wood got Bubwith's third minutes from the end but Wiggy held on.

York Phoenix sit at the top of division two after a 4-3 win over Haxby United.

Phoenix took an early lead when Scott Higgs scored with a well-taken strike and they doubled their advantage through a Tom Norton goal.

Danny Phillips made it 3-0 from the penalty spot after a collision with the Haxby goalkeeper in the penalty area. The visitors scored two penalties of their own in quick succession before Ben Low hit a fourth for Phoenix just before half-time.

Haxby scored the only goal of the second half.

Brayton recorded their second win of the season with a comfortable 2-0 victory over Beeswing.

It took only 15 seconds of the closing half for Brayton to go in front, Will Clearly making an interception before dribbling around four players to slot the ball home. The game was wrapped up late on when Cleary added his second after latching onto a loose ball to chip the keeper and make it 2-0.

Thorpe United are also on six points after a 2-1 triumph at neighbours Selby Olympia.

Matthew Harker put the visitors in front in the first half, a lead that was increased by James Wye after the restart. David Hullah’s goal for Olympia proved nothing more than a consolation.

Cliffe got back to winning ways after braces from Adrian Wood and Nathan Parker, allied to a Tom Hogg strike, gave them a 5-3 win at York Wanderers.

York Medics gained the biggest victory of the day with a 14-1 demolition of Knapton Lions.

Lewis Warnock (5), Jack Buchanan (4), Leo Watton (3), Dan McNorton and an own goal made up the Medics’ haul. Daniel Conway replied for the Lions. Dom Green (2) and Joe Crabtree were on target for Wentworth but they went down 5-3 to visitors Marcia Bishopthorpe.
