SPORTING Knavesmire dispatched premier division opponents as the York Minster Engineering League Senior Cup got under way.

The side, who have gained promotion in successive seasons to division one, crushed Tadcaster Magnets in convincing fashion - disposing of their rivals 5-2.

Danny Owers bagged a brace with Tom Williams, Luke Clayton and Jake Duckworth also finding the net.

Malton and Norton also made light work of premier division York RI, a Scott Preston hat-trick helping them on their way to a 5-1 triumph over their hosts. Simon Reeves and Brandon Reed also struck for the visitors.

The only all top-flight game to take place looked to be heading the way of Wigginton Grasshoppers as they dominated the first half, hitting the post twice and missing several other chances in their game with Dunnington.

But they trailed to a neat Ben Small goal at the break and Dunnington went on to dominate the home side as they deservedly won 4-1. Robert Chipps added a second before Martin Day bagged a brace, the second of which was a stunning 18 yard-strike.

Substitute Dan Welborn grabbed a late consolation for ‘Hoppers.

Sam Parnaby grabbed his first two career goals to give Church Fenton White Horse a 2-0 advantage at York St John University.

The students pulled a goal back in the 80th minute, but a late goal from Tom Anderson made sure that Church Fenton would be in the second round draw.

Tom Reay struck twice for Pocklington Town, but they were outscored by Copmanthorpe as Lee Bannister netted twice and Robin Bedford added his sixth goal in six games. Cop goalkeeper Ben Sheehan rounded off a 4-2 win when firing home a spot kick late in the game.

Dave Hartas sent Huntington into the lead against Easingwold Town before Chris Dyson doubled their advantage before half-time.

The home side pulled one back after the break but Dyson notched his second and Rovers’ third to secure qualification. Liam Gautrey and Craig Rowden were on target for Hemingbrough United as they triumphed 2-1 at home to Brooklyn. Josh Singleton replied.

Old Malton St Mary's, meanwhile, eased past Heslington 3-0.
