TIGHTENING up in defence is Tadcaster Albion boss Billy Miller's main priority ahead of the Brewers trip to South Tyneside outfit Hebburn in the FA Cup extra preliminary round tomorrow.

The Ings Lane outfit produced a sparkling 6-3 victory over Maltby Main in their opening Northern Counties East League premier division encounter but shipped a 3-1 lead with 20 minutes to go on Tuesday night to lose 4-3 to Parkgate.

While thrilled with the attacking prowess of his new side, Miller has pledged to plug the gaps that have seen seven goals conceded in those two matches and believes that must come in time for their journey north.

"The team is looking very good going forward but we need to learn how to manage games," he said. "We will do that. To score that many goals in just two games is great but to concede that many is a bit of a kick in the teeth.

"That's football and it doesn't take a lot before we can put that right with the game tomorrow. It's disappointing because we had two fantastic turnouts. They came out in force and, 3-1 up with 20 minutes to go, you think you are quite capable of managing the game.

"But the league is not going to be won in August. If we weren't scoring goals then I would be concerned."

On Hebburn, Miller added: "We have been up to watch them and we know what they are about. They are very similar to Parkgate so playing that game won't have done us any harm. We will go there with a game plan and look at some of the weaknesses that have been exposed in the last two games. They do need putting right.

"We will deal with them as soon as possible and we will go there with the right attitude and frame of mind confident we can get the result we need. The Northern League is extremely strong - because of the distances that teams have to travel, players will stay in that neck of the woods."

He continued: "I have been to a number of cup finals and I have been to Wembley so I know what the FA Cup is about. I know the beauty and the magic of it. It's a great distraction for us as a football club and it is essential to get over a tricky banana skin.

"Hebburn are a league below us but managers around the league know that doesn't make a blind bit of difference."

Miller will only be missing Adam Baker from the squad that has contested the opening two matches of the campaign.
