BILLY MILLER'S reign as Tadcaster Albion manager got off to the perfect start with a 6-3 mauling of Maltby Main in the Northern Counties East League premier division.

Nick Black, Jimmy Beadle, George Conway, Liam Ormsby and a brace from Joe Thornton saw the Brewers make a huge statement of intent as they ultimately bid for promotion at the end of the campaign.

Albion bossed the early stages, Thornton's crisp volley their first shot on target. They took the lead 18 minutes in when Jordan Armstrong drove down the right and was brought down in the box - Ormsby stepping up and coolly side-footing into the top right corner.

They did not relent as the half wore on and netted twice in two minutes shortly after the half hour mark.

Black, making his debut, got on the scoresheet after 35 minutes - Josh Greening rolling a delicate cross which he struck under the goalkeeper. Seconds later, Thornton found himself in space and, picked out, executed a perfect half volley which clipped the underside of the crossbar as it powered into the top right corner.

Maltby pulled a goal back four minutes into the second half, Dean Conway curling a shot into the bottom left corner, but Tadcaster soon netted a fourth.

Greening cut inside and went for goal but his shot cannoned off the crossbar and Thornton was on-hand to find the bottom corner.

Maltby found the net for the second time as a superb cross was nodded in by Ben Thornton.

Substitute Josh Barrett entered the fray for the Brewers and, when he beat four players only to be brought down, Beadle stood over the free-kick and blasted it into the back of the net.

It was six up for Tadcaster with six minutes to play as Paddy Miller carried the ball out of his own penalty area and steamed up the pitch to the half-way line where he released substitute Conway, who fired the ball high into the near corner.

But Maltby got a consolation to finish the scoring as Farbod Yousefi trundled the ball over the line from a low cross.

Former Tadcaster boss Paul Marshall couldn't get off to a winning start as his new club Pickering Town were beaten 3-0 at Handsworth Parramore. The hosts dominated the early stages and were 2-0 up in only 14 minutes through Kieran Wells and John Froggatt.

The Pikes rallied, Calum Ward's shot on 17 minutes blocked on the line, and they started to dominate the game only to be unable to find a way through. Ward forced another good save on 52 minutes and, with Parramore looking leggy, a Joe Danby free kick was narrowly headed wide by Nathan Kamara on 57 minutes.

Ward's header was then cleared off the line but, on 76 minutes and against the run of play, Handsworth broke quickly after a Pickering free-kick was charged down by the wall and Wells got his second.

Selby Town manager David Ricardo had described his side's trip to Winterton Rangers in NCEL division one as a game they had to win and the Robins obliged with a thumping 4-0 success.

Brenton Leister opened and closed the scoring with two penalties, the first coming ten minutes before half-time and the second on 90 minutes. In between, Danny Bunch, in the 44th minute, and Keane Parsons, with 17 minutes left on the clock, made the result comfortable.
