SILVERWARE in triplicate - that’s the prized preserve of Dringhouses after they claimed the York Minster Engineering Football League Reserve Cup.
The all-conquering Dringhouses, who won the Reserve ‘A’ championship and the Senior Cup, trebled up after a 3-0 win over Huntington Rovers.
An even start to the Reserve Cup final yielded few chances until just before half-time. Huntington goalkeeper Shaun Coulson produced two stunning saves, while a well-taken free-kick from Huntington was well saved.
The deadlock was finally broken in style in the 41st minute. Alex Day drove forward before detonating a 22-yard howitzer that flew into the Huntington net.
The second half drew fiercer pressure from Huntington, but the normally prolific Kieran Flanagan was off target.
As Huntington’s raids grew, Dringhouses exploited the space in behind with Matthew Mulhearn foiled by the impressive Coulson.
Midway through the half Dringhouses doubled their advantage with a close-range finish and then, after Ash Hill came close to a reply, the final was sealed when Mulhearn squared the ball to Tom Hawksby, who scored.
