TADCASTER ALBION are determined to go out with a bang in the Northern Counties East League premier division.

Manager Paul Marshall and his squad host Worksop Town tomorrow in a winner-takes-second-place battle at Ings Lane and the Brewers chief is determined it will be his side that will finish as runners-up to champions Shaw Lane Aquaforce.

“We are very serious about second place,” he said. “It was a feisty game down at Worksop.

“It’s the last game of the season, it could have been for the title but now it is for second place.”

Reviewing the campaign, which has seen Taddy only narrowly miss out on promotion to the Evo-Stik League first division, Marshall blamed a sticky patch in March - where his side picked up just two draws and two defeats - for costing them a chance to win the title.

He added: “It has been our most successful season.

“We got to the quarter-finals of the FA Vase, we reached two semi- finals and have been in the top three in the league all season. But, in March, we only got two points from 12 and that has ultimately cost us the league.

“We have won six out of seven since then.

“I am not fully happy. I think we had the opportunity to win the league and we haven’t taken it.

“We came up a little bit short against Shaw Lane and Cleethorpes Town.

“They have both beaten us twice in the league - so against two of the best teams we have come up a bit short.

“You look at the crowds, though, and how they have improved. From where we were last year we are now averaging 300 at home. That’s unbelievable.

“We have now gone three or four years without winning anything and we hoped to get some silverware this year. We came up short but we will go again.”

Marshall may call again on 17-year-old Tom Shaw, who played in the 4-2 win at Nostell Miners Welfare in midweek, but Liam Ormsby - hailed by Marshall as a “stand out performer” this season - is missing with a hamstring injury.

Paddy Miller will also miss the finale with a virus.

Elsewhere, Selby Town end their NCEL division one campaign at Bottesford Town, while Knaresborough Town host Hall Road Rangers in their final encounter of the season.
