RICCALL United ended a 37-year wait for a top-flight title when they clinched top spot in the York Minster Engineering Football League premier division.

Riccall’s first championship triumph since 1978 was confirmed after a crushing 7-1 defeat of Dringhouses, ensuring that the Landing Lane club can no longer be caught by defending champions Old Malton St Mary’s.

The triumph is a reward for long-serving player and secretary Liam Bradley, who has spent 17 years at the club chasing the title.

Ian Beckram, who scored his third hat-trick of the season in the win over Dringhouses, also looks likely to complete his first season at the club with the premier division’s golden boot after taking his league tally to 27 goals.

Wayne Brook and Gary Collier weighed in with a brace apiece.

Old Malton St Mary’s also collected three points with a 2-1 victory at Church Fenton White Horse.

Third-placed Wigginton took the lead at home to Tadcaster Magnets when Terry Taylor lobbed the keeper from 30 yards after 25 minutes.

Magnets pulled level on the stroke of half-time, with Arran Hodgson also completing a lob of the Wigginton stopper. John Crowley put Magnets ahead with a low drive shortly after the break before Jamie Green made it 2-2 in the 74th minute.

Less than 60 seconds later, Magnets were 3-2 up, Crowley beating the offside trap to slot home.

Honours were destined to be shared though, and Steve Jarvis volleyed home on the turn to seal a 3-3 draw.

Huntington Rovers ensured a top-half finish with a 6-1 triumph at Poppleton in their final league game. Rovers’ Lee Bunce, Chris Johnson and Jon James all bagged two goals in the victory.

Division one champions F1 Racing completed their season with a 5-1 win against a tough Pocklington side.

A Chris Dempsey hat-trick was added to by a Chris Smith goal and a last minute effort from Neil Yeowart, F1s 100th league goal of the season.

Nathan Parker was hero and villain for Cliffe after his goal had helped them to a 2-1 lead over Hemingbrough, before he scored a late own goal to gift Brough a point. Andy Addison was also on target for Cliffe.

Ben Brannigan netted for Total Sports but his side were defeated 3-1 by York St John.

In division two, newly-promoted Rawcliffe raced into a two-goal lead at Wilberfoss, but there were no further goals. Leon Finney and Connor Pears were the hitmen.

In division four, a James Smith hat-trick for Wheldrake was not enough as his side could only muster a point from a 3-3 draw with LNER Builders, meaning they finish at the foot of the table.

Bubwith and Settrington played a double-header and took three points each. Will Nicholson scored the only goal in the first encounter to give Bubwith the win, while his side lost 2-0 in the second game.
