DUNNINGTON Reserves lifted the York FA Saturday Junior Cup after a 2-0 victory over Kirkbymoorside at Tockwith.

The opening five minutes of the final were fairly even, with both sides missing one-on-one chances with their respective opposing goalkeepers.

However, Dunnington went in front on 14 minutes as Kirkbymoorside’s Chris Hodgson attempted to cut out a cross and hammered the ball past his keeper Adam Magson into the net.

Dunnington had the better of the next 20 minutes, while Kirkby’s best opportunities to level came from striker Alex Strickland.

The York side went close when Paul Crangle fired over the bar from 20 yards on 41 minutes.

After the break, Dunnington’s Sam Wildwood hit the bar and his team-mates failed to capitalise on the rebound.

The victory was sealed on 66 minutes as a throw by the Kirkby keeper went straight to Kieren O’Brien and the Dunnington player rifled the ball into the net from 20 yards.

Kirkbymoorside almost pulled a goal back on 77 minutes as keeper Magson cleared the ball the full length of the field, only to see it go just wide of a post.

The trophy, sponsored by Construction Marine Ltd, was presented by Barry Casterton, honorary secretary of the York FA.
