YORK Minster Engineering Football League Cup holders Wigginton Grasshoppers fell at the first hurdle, taking a 6-1 hammering at Dringhouses.

Liam Robertson put the home side ahead on 30 minutes before Ash Taylor equalised with a 20-yard curling strike just after the break.

Wilson Briggs then put Dringhouses ahead from the penalty spot before repeating the feat after Grasshoppers were reduced to ten men. A Sam Ripley-Kitson header sealed the win before Dringy struck twice more in the closing minutes.

Division one leaders F1 Racing just fell short in an evenly-contested tie at premier division table-toppers Riccall.

Finding themselves 3-0 down after ten minutes to goals from Gary Collier and Ian Beckram (2), F1 produced an outstanding 80 minutes that eventually just fell short of forcing penalties.

Neil Yeowart pulled a goal back early in the second half before Chris Dempsey swept home the second with ten minutes to go after great work by Jason McCloud. Despite late pressure Riccall held out.

The all-premier division tie between York RI and Dunnington was a fiery affair, eventually settled 2-1 in the visitors’ favour.

Liam Keenaghan scored from the penalty spot for RI, but Dan Barrett and Scott Sullivan hit the match- winning goals for Dunnington.

Luke Durham again found the target for Cliffe but his side lost 5-2 at home to Brooklyn, for whom Marcus Godsell struck a hat-trick.

Adrian Wood bagged four goals and Luke Zacharenko a brace as Hemingbrough defeated Easingwold 8-1. Scott Preston (2), Matty Reeves and Simon Reeves hit the target in Malton and Norton’s 4-0 home success over Heslington.

Johnny Brown and Ben Richardson struck for Terrington as they triumphed 2-1 at Poppleton.

In the York Minster Engineering League Junior Cup, Ouseburn United beat Fulford United 5-1.

Dwight (2), Simpson, Croft and Hayden were on target with Jamie Husband replyng.

Kieron Harris (2), and Nathan Green underpinned Haxby’s 3-1 victory over Wilberfoss.

Ben Tunningley’s goal was the only positive for Wheldrake to take out of a 7-1 defeat at Bishop Wilton.

Bubwith drew 1-1 with Barmby Moor, but Moor advanced after winning on penalties.

The Reserve Cup saw the Reserve ‘A’ sides all score convincing victories with Dunnington, Wigginton and Dringhouses all cruising through.

They are joined in the draw by fellow top tier outfits Riccall United and Tadcaster Magnets, who won at Strensall and Bishop Wilton respectively.

Fulford triumphed 7-0 against Rufforth, while Malton and Norton, Heslington and Tockwith also progressed.

Thorpe United won 5-4 on penalties at Pocklington following a 2-2 draw.
