THE York Minster Engineering League representative side went down 2-0 to the West Yorkshire League in a friendly at Selby Town’s Flaxley Road ground.

Numerous late withdrawals hindered York’s preparations but the friendly proved a useful run-out for previously unused players such as Riccall pair Tom Osborne in goal and midfielder Liam Olsson.

Their team-mate Ian Beckram saw a first-half penalty saved and the West Yorkshire keeper went on to make a fantastic stop from a header by the same player following Neale Holmes’ cross.

Wigginton Grasshoppers’ Matthew Tiplady also blazed over before the break under pressure from a defender.

In the second half, West Yorkshire made changes and it paid off with two goals in the space of ten minutes.

Beckram, meanwhile, was thwarted again by the West Yorkshire net-minder, who was a worthy recipient of the man-of-the-match honours.
