TITLE challengers Dringhouses were defeated 2-0 by lowly York RI in York Minster Engineering Football League reserve ‘A’.

Colin Cummens and Aaron North were the RI scorers, allowing leaders Wigginton Grasshoppers to take advantage by extending the gap at the top to 12 points.

Wigginton, who have played more games than their rivals, were set on their way to a 7-1 victory over Copmanthorpe by a quick-fire double from Sam Jeffery, who scored direct from a corner before doubling his tally with a drilled low shot from the edge of the box.

Jamie Willstrop (2), Eddy Clapham and James Sutton then increased the lead to six before Jack Thompson scored the goal of the game, running from his own half before firing a low shot into the far corner of the Copmanthorpe goal.

Cop hit a late consolation.

Riccall United edged a thriller 8-7 at Huntington Rovers. United led 5-2 at half-time before the scoring see-sawed up to 7-7 and then a dramatic late winner saw Riccall steal the points.

Kieran Flanagan and Ash Hill both bagged hat-tricks for Rovers, with Dan Shepherd hitting their seventh, while Gary Collier (3), Martin Howson (2), Jamie England, Joel Langton and Josh O’Neill were the United marksmen.

In reserve ‘B’, Thorpe United were 3-1 winners over Brooklyn and are only one victory away from joining leaders Church Fenton in reserve ‘A’ next season. Cameron Swift scored for Brooklyn.

Darren Heels (2) and Jordan Elliot were on target for Stamford Bridge, but they lost 5-3 at Bishopthorpe.

Heslington moved up to fifth with a 4-3 win over Poppleton. Ryan Garbutt scored a second successive brace and was supported by goals from Dylan Henderson and Alex Sutherland.

Bottom side Hemingbrough United gave themselves every chance of avoiding relegation with a 5-1 win over Fulford. Jamie Wheeler (2), Aaron White (2) and Rob Scarr scored for the home side while John Moore grabbed Fulford’s consolation.

Hamilton Panthers won promotion to reserve ‘B’ and are virtually certain to be crowned champions of reserve ‘C’ following a 4-3 defeat of Strensall. Tockwith’s 2-0 loss at F1 Racing, whose goals were both scored by Sam Hope, means that the leaders can no longer be caught by anyone but Civil Service, who would need Panthers to lose their last game and overturn an almost impossible goal difference statistic.

Shaun Corr, an own goal and a Liam Holding strike gave Civil Service a 3-1 half-time lead against Bishop Wilton before Jordan Mason and Matthew Williams rounded off a 5-1 triumph.
