RICCALL United’s York Minster Engineering Football League premier division title chances took a significant upswing.

Not only did they hammer Poppleton United 6-1, but rivals Old Malton St Mary’s were held to a goalless draw at Terrington Glory.

On target for Riccall were Will Ramsay (3), Ian Beckram, Gary Collier and Wayne Brook and they are now five points clear of Malton, who have two games in hand.

Old Malton were not the only premier side to draw a blank, with Wigginton and Osbaldwick playing out a no-score draw - Wigginton’s first blank share-all in seven seasons.

Dringhouses toppled Tadcaster Magnets 6-0 with Tadcaster paying the price for having a man sent off 20 minutes in. The goals were shared by Wilson Briggs (3), Cameron Mulhearn (2) and Dave Watson.

Huntington Rovers climbed back into the top six with a 3-2 win at home to Copmanthorpe. Robin Bedford had put Copmanthorpe into an early lead, but this was cancelled out by a Gary Newton penalty.

He went on to strike twice and complete his hat-trick early in the second period, before an own goal set up a tight finish.

In-form Jon Marshall bagged a hat-trick to take his tally to eight goals in four games as Church Fenton White Horse defeated York RI 5-1. Lewis Beecher and Lenny Mason were also on target with Jack Condren scoring RI’s consolation.

Harrison Signs beat visitors Easingwold 2-0 graced by Jack Pottage’s 25-yard left-footed screamer and a Mark Benton prod home from close range.

Division one promotion-chasers Brooklyn and Malton & Norton hit the goal trail with leaders F1 Racing without a game.

Brooklyn won 6-1 at Total Sports, for whom Connor Brannigan scored. Marcus Godsell (2), Mikey Brown (2), Andrew Metcalfe and Andrew Phillips were the Brooklyn marksmen.

Malton & Norton routed already relegated Hamilton Panthers 14-0. There were hat-tricks for Simon Reeves, Kingsley Daffern and Matty Reeves, while Scott Preston and Brandon Read picked up two goals apiece and Sam Lander completed the spree.

Cliffe and York St John played out a 4-4 thriller in which Tom Robinson (2), Tom Hogg and Nathan Parker struck for Cliffe.

Tom Collins, Liam Gautry and Mike Hemingway were on target for Hemingbrough as they cruised to a 3-0 win at Tockwith.

Sporting Knavesmire moved up to second in division two with a 5-2 win over Bishopthorpe.

Jake Duckworth, Danny Owers, Aistair Brown, Gaz Innes and Luke Hutchinson found the net for the victors.

Barmby Moor mauled Fulford 5-1, the plunder shared by Jack Lockwood (2), Liam Booth (2) and Shaun Elvidge.

Thorpe stayed hot on Barmby Moor’s heels with a 4-3 win at Ouseburn, where Davey Cryer, Andrew Wilson, Matthew Howden and Daniel Montgomery netted for Thorpe, with Chris Simpson (2) and Josh Forster responding.

 

Strensall lift

 

JOSH WINN and Andy Hiley gave Strensall a 3-0 half-time lead at Civil Service in the York Minster Engineering League Junior Cup.

Despite a goal from Civil, Lee Lyons struck to give Strensall a 4-1 win.

Selby RSSC were beaten 4-1 by visiting Huby United, whose tally was hit by player-manager and sub Richard Wilsdon (2), Greg Wilsdon and Dave Adams.

Brooklyn won 3-1 at Haxby United in the only Reserve Cup game of the day.
