THE York Minster Engineering Football League premier division title race looks like going right down to the wire.

Leaders Riccall United and reigning champions Old Malton St Mary’s both scored narrow wins to maintain the status quo at the top.

Riccall went 1-0 up at home to Church Fenton through Gary Collier, only for Johnny Marshall to level from the spot.

Ian Beckram then popped up with the winner before a period of pressure saw the hosts reduced to ten men as Church Fenton pressed for a second equaliser.

Rob McQuarrie saw a spectacular effort saved late in the game as Riccall hung on for what could turn out to be a crucial three points.

Old Malton’s fate is in their own hands after a narrow 1-0 win over Huntington Rovers as they can overcome the three-point deficit by making the most of their two games in hand.

A 3-0 win for Dringhouses at Dunnington paved the way for Wigginton Grasshoppers to move into third position following a 8-0 triumph over Poppleton United.

Tommy Medd, Chris Banks and Jordan Outerbridge all found the target for Dringy as they moved above Church Fenton and Copmanthorpe into seventh spot.

Wiggy had Michael Clancy in goal to thank as Poppleton passed up two glorious chances to take the lead, before Jamie Willstrop finally broke the deadlock after 25 minutes. The winger then doubled his tally ten minutes later, curling a low free-kick around the Poppleton wall and into the net.

Willstrop’s hat-trick was completed on 41 minutes with a superb solo goal as he dribbled past four players to slot home.

A 4-0 half-time scoreline was sealed when Tom Coates was left with an open goal after confusion in the Poppleton defence.

Willstrop hit two more in the second period to take his personal total to five, before Coates hit a eft-foot finish and headed home to round off his perfect hat-trick.

Tadcaster Magnets’ woes continued as Osbaldwick became the latest side to take their scalp.

A Matt Hattee penalty put Osso into the lead after 12 minutes before a wonderful curling 25-yard strike by Harry Cartledge found its way into the net from a narrow angle.

Magnets responded immediately after the break with Sam Harrison reducing the deficit with a penalty, but a second Hattee spot kick six minutes later confirmed a 3-1 victory for Osbaldwick.

York RI gained a 5-0 win at Easingwold with goals from Mike MacKenzie, Liam Stilgoe, Leigh Dutton, Mark Woodward and Craig McShane.
