MIDFIELD marksman Terry Taylor put the hop into Wigginton Grasshoppers to bounce through to the semi- finals of the York Sunday Morning Football League Challenge Trophy.

Taylor was twice on target in a comeback conquest over fellow first division rivals Hounds.

The quarter-final was barely nine minutes old when hosts Hounds broke the deadlock. Chris Jackson breached the Wigginton offside trap to slot the ball past goalkeeper Josh Luckhurst.

Chances followed at both ends with Jackson missing a golden opportunity to extend Hounds’ lead, while Tom Coates, Jamie Wilstrop and Tom Derbyshire all went close for Wigginton.

But the tie was levelled seven minutes from time when Neale Holmes floated in a free-kick enabling the predatory Taylor to slide the ball home.

Extra time followed a similar pattern.

Jackson again beat the offside ploy only for his lob over the keeper to strike the crossbar and bounce to safety.

In the second period, Jordan Holt’s long-range drive was narrowly off target and a penalty shoot-out loomed.

But with a minute to go, substitute Michael Clancy put Taylor clear. He bypassed two defenders before firing the winner into the net.

The second quarter final was much more one-sided as Dunnington ousted Snaith 4-0.

Josh Tattersall put the home side ahead, Sam Wildwood adding another goal before half-time.

Wildwood and Rob Hart struck in the second half.

Division one action saw Station register a 4-0 success over Albion Vaults courtesy of goals from Callum Roe Dixon (2), Harry Brigham and Gary Collier.

An 11-goal thriller graced division two, where Marcia Grey shaded Brayton 6-5.

Joshua Knowles and Rob Guest put Brayton 2-0 up before a reply from Marcia’s Ryan Day.

But Brayton then went 4-1 up by half-time through Ged Christian and a venomous 25-yard free-kick from Knowles.

An Alex Day retort shortly after half-time was followed by Brayton’s fifth strike from Guest to restore the three- goal advantage.

That was the prelude for a stunning Marcia mission.

Leigh Dutton and Day again cut the lead to one which was then erased by Joe Mason after he was teed up for a cracking finish by Day.

Despite being reduced to nine men following a brace of second bookable offences, Grey bagged the winner thanks to Tommy Medd’s marksmanship.

York Phoenix won a hard-fought division three tussle against Selby Olympia.

Anthony Falcone drilled Phoenix ahead before Danny Phillips scored a thunderous shot from 35 yards.

The Phoenix lead was stretched in the second half by Ben Low before Matthew Howden’s late brace for Olympia teed up a nervy finish.

Thorpe United broke out from a blank first-half against Marcia Bishopthorpe to post a 3-1 victory.

The Thorpe scorers were Jake Wild (2) and Darren Pool.
