SECOND-PLACED Riccall United gave Wigginton Grasshoppers a lesson in finishing as they won 4-1 in the York Minster Engineering Football League premier division.

The weather put a stop to many of the day's fixtures, but the Riccall clash was one of two important top flight matches to get the green light.

Riccall's win over fourth-placed Wigginton moved them level on points with defending champions Old Malton St Mary's at the top of the table.

Grasshoppers had much of the first half possession, aided by the wind, but could not manage to find the net despite chances for Matthew Tiplady, Luke Hall and Josh Luckhurst.

Instead, Riccall took the lead when Gary Collier was teed up six yards out - an invitation the striker could not refuse.

Jamie Willstrop then hit the bar for Wiggy as they continued to push forward, but they went in at half-time two behind when Ian Beckram raced away to smash an unstoppable shot past Michael Clancy from close range.

The second half saw Riccall assume a much more dominant role in the game, though the next goal was to come the way of the away side, Hall volleying home to make it 2-1.

A sublime 30-yard strike from Chris Coxon put the game to bed for Riccall, and the same player slotted home minutes later to secure the 4-1 win.

In the division's other game, Dunnington defeated Church Fenton White Horse 2-1.

Olly Newby bagged a brace to put the home side two clear at the break before the away side gained a consolation in the second period.

In division one, Brooklyn moved level on points with leaders Malton & Norton as goals from Marcus Godsell, Andrew Metcalfe and Andrew Phillips gave them a 3-1 win over Tockwith.

Fourth-placed Hemingbrough saw off Heslington 2-0 with efforts from Craig Rowden and Luke Zacharenko.

Chris Jackson scored his obligatory hat-trick as Cliffe gained a 5-1 success at home to St Clement's. Nathan Parker and Andy Addison were also on target for the home side.

Thorpe United closed the gap on the leading pair in division two with a 5-0 demolition of Fulford.

Free-scoring Chris Harkin picked up four of their haul, with David Reasbeck adding the finishing touches.

Shaun Elvidge and Karl Laverick hit the target to give Barmby Moor a 2-1 win over Bishop Wilton. Darren Woodhead replied.

Bishopthorpe United triumphed 5-2 at Wilberfoss.
