TADCASTER MAGNETS produced the shock of the day in the York Minster Engineering League Premier Division by humbling unbeaten defending champions Old Malton St Mary's. Magnets beat their title rivals 3-1, exactly a week after being on the wrong end of a 6-0 thrashing by the same opponents.

After only five minutes of the match, Malton keeper Ben Gill mis-hit a clearance which fell to Magnets' Adam Field who dispatched his shot past the stricken stopper into the net. Malton responded and pressured the home side for the remainder of the half but couldn't break through a resistant back line.

The second half didn't start much better for Malton who soon found themselves trailing by two thanks to a Robert McDermid header. A red card shortly after saw the champions reduced to ten men but they were given a lifeline when they were awarded a penalty following a spell of pressure. However, Tom Fenwicks spot kick was saved and Malton were made to pay as Philip Smith prodded home a loose ball following a free kick. A superb move then saw Dean Nuttall and Steve Baxter play a part in a great team goal which was flicked home by Tom Fenwick to make it 3-1.

With Malton stalling, Riccall United were quick to take advantage, beating Osbaldwick 4-0 to close the gap at the top to three points. Wayne Brook (2), Will Ramsay and Ross Gemmell struck the all important goals that held United in second position.

After 67 minutes, Town drew level after a free kick was flicked on and stabbed home by Andrew Metcalfe. Graashoppers responded quickly though and Dan Zambelli fed Terry Taylor who fired home the match winner from 18 yards.

Goals from Neil Richardson and Nathan Kamara sent Harrisons Signs and Dringhouses in level at half time, but it was the away side who responded the better to secure a 5-2 win at the end of play. James Robinson hit a hat-trick and Dave Watson rounded off the scoring as Dringhouses collected the points. Karl Babaro hit the second of Signs' goals.
