SELBY TOWN boss Dave Ricardo wants his side to put on a five-star show against AFC Mansfield.

The Robins chief leads his team into the Northern Counties East League first division clash at Flaxley Road tomorrow on a high after they prised a worthy point from league leaders AFC Emley in midweek.

Ricardo was left bemoaning a contentious offside decision in that match which allowed Alex Hallam to equalise in the first half after Jamie Forrester had given Selby a 15th-minute lead.

But the boss is taking heart from that display which sees Selby now boasting a four-game unbeaten run and followed up last Saturday’s 3-2 win at Lincoln Moorlands, where Chris Jackson netted twice.

Now he is keen to extend their positive run of form against mid-table Mansfield.

“We have only lost two games in the last eight and have played really well,” Ricardo said.

“Our back four had their game of the season against Emley. They deserved a clean sheet. That gives us a lot of optimism.

“The average age of the team on Tuesday night was just 21 and there are a lot of younger players coming through.

“Mansfield came to watch us in midweek. They are taking the game seriously.

“They are flying high in the Vase and doing really well at the moment. It will be a tough game.

“We beat them on the first day of the season.

“We know how they play and, hopefully, we can pick up another win.”

Ricardo will be without Liam Wilkin, who is expected to be out of action for another couple of weeks.

Tadcaster Albion, who went down 1-0 at Shaw Lane Aquaforce on Tuesday night in a top of the table premier division clash, are not in action this weekend.

Elsewhere in the first division, Knaresborough Town travel to Hallam.

Harrogate Railway, in sixth in the Evo-Stik League first division north table after a 2-1 victory over Ossett Albion last time out, go to Warrington Town.

Scarborough Athletic, one place above Railway in the table, are also away, at Ossett Albion.

Harrogate Town’s season is quickly unravelling.

Down to 16th in the Conference North table following a 2-0 defeat to Hednesford, the Wetherby Roaders have now gone seven games without a win.

They are also on their travels with a trip to Brackley Town.
