DIVISION three leaders Civil Service were toppled by title rivals Kirkbymoorside in the York Minster Engineering Football League.

Civil Service took the lead through Connor Larner but were pegged back by the hosts before the interval thanks to an Alex Strickland goal.

Matthew Butler struck after the break to give Kirkbymoorside a vital three points as the title race begins to hot up.

South Milford edged a ten-goal spectacle at Rufforth 6-4 to stay in second place. Daniel Cornish (2), David Withington, Gareth Bell, Stuart Wilson and Charles Duffy were on target for the victors.

Daniel Witcombe netted twice for Rufforth to add to goals by Graham Wray and Lee Bartlett.

Stamford Bridge held onto fourth place after winning 4-3 at Moor Lane, but were made to work hard for the points, twice having to come from behind.

Andrew Kenyon, Gavin Harford and Mike Bourlet were on target for Moor Lane, but were outpointed by Darren Brandon (2), Chris Bowles and John Cavanagh, with his 12th league goal of the season.

Steve Aconley and Dave Adams helped themselves to hat-tricks as Huby United beat Jorvik Blades 8-3.

James Munn and Joe Broughton completed the scoring for Huby, while Ben Spedding, Adam Room and Tim Godfrey bagged for Blades.

Selby Olympia edged their local derby with Selby RSSC, running out 5-3 winners.

Huntington WMC caused an upset in division four, with a 5-3 defeat of leaders Bubwith.

Second-placed Wetherby Athletic also had a touch of the new year blues, losing 7-3 at home to Cawood.

James Smith struck four times and George Leadley once as Wheldrake triumphed 5-4 at Settrington. Huntington defeated Melbourne 3-2. Aaron Camp and Ben Thompson netted for Melbourne.

In the only game of the day in reserve 'B', Thorpe United defeated Hemingbrough 4-1. Steve Irving was on target for Brough.

In reserve 'C', Rufforth were defeated 2-1 by a dominant F1 side. Ben Calverley struck the decisive goals.

DIVISION one side Hemingbrough stand between Old Malton St Mary’s and a place in the final of the York FA Saturday Senior Cup.

Old Malton are chasing a league and cup double as the Ryedale side are on course to retain their York Minster Engineering Football League premier division crown.

Hemingbrough, fifth in the division one standings, will host Old Malton in the Stoneplan Landscape Construction- sponsored competition on Saturday, March 14.

The other semi-final sees Dunnington, second in the premier division, host lowly top flight rivals York RI on the same day.

Division three title favourites Kirkbymoorside have been drawn at home to Harrogate Leaguers Helperby in the last four of the York FA Saturday Junior Cup.

The winner of that clash will take on the winner of the tie between division two Thorpe United and Dunnington Reserves.

York Sunday Morning League division one leaders Wigginton Grasshoppers have a home draw against Marcia Grey, of division two, in the last four of the York FA Sunday Morning Senior Cup.

That tie will be played on Sunday, March 15, when Hounds will host Dunnington in the second semi-final. Hounds, third in the Sunday League’s top flight, will be aiming to topple second-placed Dunnington.

The semi-finals of the York FA junior cups are split over two weekends, with the under-19s, U15s, U13s and U11s on Sunday, March 1, and the U16s, U14s and U12s on Sunday, March 8.
