STUNG by a rare defeat - and even more by a loss of players - Tadcaster Albion boss Paul Marshall has leapt into the transfer market.

The Albion juggernaut was halted on home turf by in midweek. Visiting Cleethorpes triumphed 3-0 with all the goals struck in a bewildering five-minute spell midway through the second half.

But even more dispiriting for the Northern Counties East League premier division leaders was that they suffered more injuries ahead of tomorrow's trip to Retford United.

Captain and marksman Nick Thompson is facing a lengthy spell out after damaging ankle ligament, while follow frontman Carl Stewart remains a doubt with a long-standing knee injury.

And with former professional duo Jonathan Greening and Denny Ingram both suspended, then the leaders' squad strength has been severely hit.

Said Marshall: "I've put in seven days' notice for a couple of players.

"With the big run of fixtures coming along in the next month I felt we just need a couple more players in, so I may be fielding a new face or two tomorrow.

"If the moves don't come off then we will have a look at a couple of our younger players."

The Brewers; boss was hoping that whoever plays, they would respond to the shock midweek reverse in the best possible manner.

"That's the most important thing now - bouncing back," he said.

"It won't be easy either. While Retford are struggling near the bottom they will be smarting from getting beat 9-3 by Maltby, so it's a significant game for both teams tomorrow."

Marshall, meanwhile, had no complaints about the 3-0 crash to Cleerthorpes.

"The second goal they scored was straight after the opener and that more or less killed the game, but they were better than us," said Marshall.

"We had an off day and they played very well, the biggest worry was that they seemed to want it more than us. It was a very disappointing result but Cleethorpes deserved to win."
