WIGGINTON Grasshoppers remain six points clear at the top of York Sunday Morning Football League division one following a 1-1 draw with second-placed Dunnington.

The real winners were Hounds and Station, who are third and fourth respectively, with games in hand on the top two.

Grasshoppers took the lead after ten minutes when Tom Derbyshire lofted the ball over the Dunnington keeper.

There was no further score until late in the second period by which time the hosts’ supremacy should have been sealed only for Jamie Green to blaze over from close range. That miss proved costly.

Rob Hart’s strike produced a great save from Wiggy keeper Paul Wilson and further decent chances followed before substitute Matty Wain finally grabbed a deserved equaliser with a scrappy goal five minutes from time.

In the other division one match, Michael Brown’s goal for Hemingbrough was a scant consolation in an 8-1 defeat by free-scoring Hounds.

Louis Blackwell netted half the tally, with Chris Jackson bagging a brace. Ben Olsson and Richard Gladwell were also on the scoresheet.

York Nomads amassed four straight wins by beating Bishopthorpe United 3-0. Sam Thompson (2) and Chris Bilton hit the mark.

Hambleton took the initiative at home to Brayton going in front after 13 minutes when goalkeeper Buchanan dropped a cross, leaving a simple tap-in.

Wilks then hit the bar for Brayton, before Buchanan made up for his earlier mistake with a superb penalty save.

Minutes later, Hambleton went 2-0 up before Guest converted a penalty for Brayton.

Any hope of a second-half recovery was soon quashed when Hissett sliced the ball into his own net after 47 minutes.

A defensive mix-up with ten minutes to go saw the ball fired into an empty net from 40 yards to seal Hambleton’s 4-1 win.

In division three, Nathan Parker helped Cliffe to race into a 3-0 half-time lead against Selby RSSC. He was twice on target to add to an own goal.

The railway club responded with three goals, but it was Cliffe’s day as Parker wrapped up his hat-trick.

Craig Nicholl (3), Alex McKay and Neil Richardson were all on target for York Wanderers as they won 5-4 at Selby Olympia.

Pawel Jankowski (2), Elliott Clark and Janos Takac replied.
