DUNNINGTON upped the ante at the top of the York Minster Engineering Football League premier division with a 4-1 win over Poppleton United.

With several top flight teams, including leaders Old Malton St Mary’s, involved in county cup action, Dunnington took advantage to climb to second in the table.

Tom Richards, Olly Newby, Dan Andrew and Callum Richardson were on target for the former champions.

Last season’s promoted sides also had a fruitful day.

Church Fenton White Horse claimed a notable scalp in a game played in dire conditions as they defeated Huntington Rovers 2-1.

A John Langrick penalty and a fine strike from James Barrett saw the home side two in front by half-time, but the ever-reliable Chris Dyson despatched a second half free-kick to reduce the deficit.

Adam Field and Scott Nicholas netted for Tadcaster Magnets as they triumphed 2-0 over Copmanthorpe.

Osbaldwick completed the set, comfortably putting six past Easingwold Town without reply. After a goalless 40-minute period, Tom Wheatland and Andrew Bilton notched in quick succession to deflate the home side’s hopes just before the break.

A one-way second period saw Jack Sullivan claim a hat-trick and Bilton grab a second.

An uneven first half at York University saw York RI cruise into a 5-0 lead against Harrison Signs.

Mark Woodward and Leigh Dutton bagged braces, with Liam Keenaghan also scoring from the spot.

In the second half, Darren Sellars completed the RI scoring as they won 6-2. Mark Benton and Rob Hutton were on target for Signs.

In division one, Brooklyn leapfrogged Heslington into third position with a 4-3 win over their rivals.

George Moore hit an 86th-minute winner for the home side, adding to strikes from Andrew Metcalfe and Marcus Godsell (2).

Tockwith and York St John drew 1-1 in the division’s only other game.

In division two, Thorpe United defeated Ouseburn courtesy of a brace from Chris Harkin, moving them up to second in the table.

Haxby led 2-0 at half-time against Wilberfoss and they increased that to 5-0.
