YORK Phoenix lead division three of the York Sunday Morning Football League on goal difference after a 4-4 share-all with Marcia Bishopthorpe, writes Graham Ireton.

Steve Lorains gave Phoenix the lead before Marcia, who are joint top on points, notched twice to take the lead.

Lorains then levelled before Marcia once again nosed ahead just before the break.

Ben Lowe put Phoenix back in the game but they quickly found themselves trailing once again. John McKenzie’s late effort finally ensured that honours were even at the final whistle.

York Medics lie third in the table after they won their pipe-opener 3-1 at Haxby.

Leo Watton, Elliot Jones- Williams and Lewis Warnock scored the all-important goals for the Medics, with Gaz Harton replying for Haxby.

Craig Atkin bagged a first half brace for York Wanderers at Cliffe as the side went into their team talks with all to play for.

The home side’s words had the desired effect, though, with Cliffe repeating their opening period’s efforts to finish up 4-2 winners.

On the scoresheet for the Oxen Lane side were Ryan Tiplady, Nigel Horner, Tom Ellwood and Tom Grudy.

Thorpe United took the lead against Hemingbrough after only ten minutes when Matthew Harker headed home a Kyle Hesling cross.

A Daniel Jones 25-yard screamer made it 2-0 to the hosts before Hesling’s penalty was well saved by Will Moss.

There were no mistakes from the spot at the other end as Dom Green’s penalty reduced the arrears to one.

A newly-inspired Wentworth then went on to seal a 2-2 draw late in the game when Mutlu Cukurova found the net.
