SAMANTHA TERRY’S second-half goal saw York City Ladies reserves kick off their North Riding Women’s League campaign with a 1-0 win at Guisborough Town.
In the first period, York applied unrelenting pressure with Ellie Randall causing no end of problems down the right-hand side.
Chances fell to Margot Widdup, who hit a post and player-of-the-match Helen Dalby, who was denied by a goal-line clearance.
The breakthrough finally came on 55 minutes when pressure from Lauren Coombs forced a mistake from the goalkeeper and gave Terry the opportunity to score with a sweet strike from outside the box.
Samantha Knight then pulled off some great saves to safeguard the three points and get new manager Jonny Bruce’s reign off to a winning start.
