HUNTINGTON Rovers gained their first victory of the York Minster Engineering Football League premier division season with a hard fought 4-3 win over Osbaldwick.

An explosive start to the game saw four goals in the first ten minutes.

Chris Dyson gave Rovers the lead with a header after 90 seconds before Andrew Bilton hit a quickfire brace minutes later to give the visitors the advantage.

Lee Bunce wasted no time restoring parity and then scored with a delicate lob before Kevin Martin made it 4-2 at the break from the penalty spot.

Early in the second half, Matt Hattee got Osbaldwick back into the game from the penalty spot.

Meanwhile, York Sunday Morning Football League returns this Sunday without one of its keenest supporters and dedicated committee members.

Dave Bailey, who died of cancer in early June, had served on the committee for many years and was the league's results and press secretary until the end of last season.

Bailey was well known in local football circles having played for Fulford Road, Wheldrake, The Mason's Arms, REME and Cueball Fulford, among others, from the 1970s to the 1990s and was secretary of the Cueball Fulford team until they folded in 2012.

A league spokesman said: "In his role as a league committee man, Dave was professional and easy to deal with - his match reports were read regularly every Friday by readers of The Press.

"A good humoured, honest and hard-working man, he is already sadly missed by those who had the pleasure to have known him."
