WIGGINTON Grasshoppers are only five points behind premier division leaders Dunnington after a 3-1 win at reigning York Minster Engineering Football League champions Old Malton St Mary’s.

As Dunnington were without a game, second-placed Grasshoppers took full advantage.

The visitors led at the break courtesy of an early Jamie Wilstrop effort, but only the agility of ’keeper Michael Clancy denied the Ryedale side an equaliser.

Within four minutes of the resumption, Wiggy doubled their lead as Lee McQuade struck his 24th league goal of the season.

Scott Preston pulled a goal back within two minutes for the hosts, but Kev Butler got the third 20 minutes from time. Riccall recorded their first victory at Copmanthorpe since winning promotion to the top flight four years ago.

After taking the lead through an own goal, Matty Pallister levelled for Cop, but Riccall pinched all three points with a last-minute winner from Andy Addison. Huntington completed the double over Poppleton as they followed up a 4-1 home win with a 3-1 away victory.

Chris Dyson hit the opener and Marc Thompson scored twice in the second half.

Easingwold Town ended a run of 11 games without a win as they beat hosts Selby RSSC 3-2.

RSSC, looking for their first home win of the season, led 2-0 at the break with goals from Matty Musgrave and Louis Blackwell, but the visitors hit back in the second period with goals from Ben Stirk, George Kirk and Ben Tilley.

York RI trailed 1-0 at the break at home to Rowntrees, but outplayed their opponents in the second half to win 7-2. Nick Hutchinson, Cameron Sanderson, Lee Powell (2) Liam Keenaghan (2) and Craig Atkinson shared their tally.

York St John beat fellow strugglers Hamilton Panthers 1-0, Daniel Tingay heading the only goal of the game after two minutes.
