Reserve ‘A’ leaders Wigginton Grasshoppers slipped up against bogey side Huntington Rovers in the York Minster Engineering Football League.

The Grasshoppers second string have beaten Huntington only once since 2008 and their poor Rovers run continued as they lost 3-2.

Tom Metcalfe’s early penalty for Grasshoppers was cancelled out by Chris Holmes but, before the break, Terry Taylor restored their lead.

However, in the second period the experience of Graham McDonald proved pivotal for Huntington as he hit their equaliser before laying on the perfect through ball for Lee Bunce to run onto and slot home the winner.

It was Wigginton’s first defeat in 18 games.

Old Malton St Mary’s closed the gap in second place with a 6-2 home win over Haxby.

The Ryedale side’s goals were shared between Jack Thackray and Dean Clarkson, Adam Newell (2) and Neil Wilford (2), with Paul Holmes and Andy Carter replying for Haxby.

Dunnington are also in the title mix after a 2-1 win over struggling Riccall United.

Trailing at the break to a Brett Collier goal, Dunnington levelled when Tom Edwards chipped the Riccall ’keeper before a Matty Wain volley wrapped up the points.

Rob Evans put the insurance side in front and, although Andrew Metcalfe junior restored parity, Dave Buchart hit the winner.

Two of Aviva’s relegation rivals, Bishopthorpe and York St John, both won.

Goals from Owen Thomas and Andy Seagus helped Bish win 2-1 at home to Tadcaster, who had led through Billy Thompson.

A Daniel Tingay hat-trick and goals from Tom Hairyes and Sam Bassett helped the students win 5-3 at Amotherby, whose Matty Beam hit a hat-trick.

White Horse are the new leaders after they extended their unbeaten run to eight games with a 6-2 win at Heslington. Alex Sutherland and John Hall netted for the hosts.

A Danny Penrose hat-trick helped Fulford to a 4-3 win at Pocklington. Joe Kanarski got Fulford’s fourth, while the home side’s scorers were Stu Barker (2) and Mike Stacey.

Reserve ‘C’ leaders Malton & Norton needed a goal five minutes from time at Stamford Bridge to secure all three points as they won 4-3.

Wayne Hazell (2) and Steve Hoggard scored for the Ryedale side before Darren Branden (2) and Bobby Templeton brought the hosts level, but they suffered a first home defeat in six when Matty Reeve hit a late winner for the Ryedale side.

Second-placed Selby RSSC beat Thorpe 2-1. James Pearson gave Thorpe an early lead, but Kyle Pool levelled before Jim Darlison won it on his debut.

Sean Stewart took his tally for the season to 13 when he put Rowntrees in front against Strensall.

Dan Marshall and Dale Phillips made it 3-0 before Liam Winfield grabbed a consolation goal for Strensall.
