HEMINGBROUGH roared back to form to complete the HPH York Vale Cricket League double.
They beat deposed champions University of York Staff by 57 runs to add the division one title to the HPH Cup which they won earlier in the month.
Layton Hallam (53) led them to a competitive 181-8 but the star of the show was bowler Paul Collins who came out of retirement to take 5-17.
The result leaves Staff in the drop zone needing victory against North Cave in their final game to stand any chance of escaping.
Cave lost second spot to Burn after losing at home to Clifton Alliance, whose six-wicket win was based on Ali Lloyd’s half-century after David Friend’s 3-10 from 12 overs.
Burn’s prolific opening pair Leigh Adamson (85) and Ray Adamson (59) laid the foundations of victory against Copmanthorpe, whose Andy Godfrey responded with 61.
Barmby Moor’s Barry Shepherdson (100 not out) and Andy Winn (55) put on 109 in 14 overs in the rout of Heworth which was completed by Adrian Stancer’s 5-9.
Chris Walker’s 6-14 engineered a dramatic Bishopthorpe collapse to set up Wheldrake’s win.
Ben Johnson secured promotion to the top flight after making their highest total of the season against Melbourne, whose Andrew Room (108) was the only man to handle Steve Wragg (6-38).
Rich Grimes took a hat-trick as Stockton & Hopgrove boosted their chances of going up by crushing Selby by ten wickets.
Ovington kept in the hunt after Neil Metcalfe’s 94 not out lifted them from 46-5 to earn a 43-run win against struggling Fulfordgate.
Phil Allen’s 71, his best score for Askham Bryan, earned his side victory against Westow.
Sam Dunn (5-31) and Craig Lawson (4-28) bowled unchanged as division three champions Hirst Courtney saw off Goole Town.
Woodhouse Grange are favourites to join Hirst in division two after Luke Cattle’s 48 led them to victory against Bishopthorpe II.
Thorpe Willoughby stayed in the hunt after star turns by Nadeem Shefta, run out for 92, and spinner Mark Seaman (7-26) crushed nine-man Stillingfleet.
Ben Potter (4-21) helped Thixendale secure their third division status as Acomb were bowled out for just 80.
Welton & Brough’s James Beaton (120no) and Steve Bedford (61no) amassed a huge third-wicket partnership against relegated Hemingbrough II.
Mike Noble hammered a match-winning 177 not out for Ovington II in the division four promotion battle against York RI. However, doubts have been raised about the player’s eligibility which the league are investigating.
Heworth II’s Perwez Ahkter came within a whisker of joining the exclusive ‘ten-for’ club as he took 9-18 in 7.4 overs against Huntington.
He was only denied the possibility of a full house as the visitors only had ten men. He also led Heworth to victory by top scoring with 47.
Under-15 player Aled Davies spun Wheldrake II to victory at Copmanthorpe II with 5-30.
Drax’s Dan Montgomery fell three short of a century as visitors Tadcaster lost by seven wickets.
