HIRST Courtney crowned a brilliant weekend by lifting the Prendergast Memorial Trophy.

The previous day they had clinched promotion from division three of the HPH York Vale League and completed the double in Sunday’s final against Melbourne at Malton & Old Malton’s ground.

Batting first, Hirst made a poor start and were struggling on 51-5 as Melbourne’s Ben Charlton (3-42) took the initiative.

However, Brian Howard (35), Nigel Goddard (31) and Tony Hinch (23) and Mark Alford (23) hoisted the score to 157-9 by the end, Malcolm Harrison taking 3-25.

Melbourne began brightly and at 81-2 looked on course for a surprise win.

But Lee Wild (3-18) removed Harrison (30) to trigger a collapse to 125 all out. Howard took 3-16.
