STOCKTON & Hopgrove romped to victory in the final of the Scothern Construction Cup against Selby at Woodhouse Grange.

A tight bowling performance, backed up by sharp fielding, restricted Selby to 122-9 which they only achieved thanks to a late flurry from Aidan Pierce (28 not out). Mark Bradshaw, Dan Fairclough, Rich Grimes and Matt Durkin took two wickets each, while Dave Kerrison ran out tailender Malcolm Bowden with a direct throw from the boundary.

Stockton sped to victory with Rich Horsman cracking an unbeaten 44 from 42 balls, while Dan Fairclough’s 37 included three sixes before becoming the only wicket to fall to 13-year-old spinner Alex Bowden.

Burton Salmon moved into the final of the Headley Memorial Cup by defeating holders Thorp Arch & Boston Spa.

TABS recovered from 23-2 through Paul Almond (47) but Adrian Davies (5-43) restricted the West Yorkshire side to 152-8.

Salmon made serene progress towards their target with David Thornton (48no), Mark Horsey (36) and Davies (32) earning a six-wicket win. The only hiccup came when two wickets fell to Andrew Lindsay with the score on 100.

Burn II were put in by Ovington II in the other semi-final and were bowled out for 143 in 33.1 overs. Andrew Watson (38) looked dangerous before holing out on the boundary off the bowling of Tom Bissett (3-17). Craig Theaker also chipped in with 3-45.

Ovington made a steady start and accelerated once Theaker (52) got into his stride. Burn kept plugging away and removed five batsmen before Ovington got home in 34.4 overs.

The final will be played on Sunday, August 29.
