IN-FORM Ray Adamson smacked his second century of the season to keep Burn in the HPH York Vale Cricket League division one title hunt.
The opener finished unbeaten on 111 – exactly half of his side’s 222-5 in a 78-run win against champions University of York Staff whose reply was stifled by Graham Parker (4-25) and Adam Prescott (3-19).
Adamson’s second successive ton means he has had scores of 111 not out, 106, 31, 65 and 99 not out in his last five league innings.
Hemingbrough consolidated top spot with a comfortable seven-wicket win against Clifton Alliance who were bowled out for 97, 14-year-old leg spinner Rob Scarr taking 4-17.
Ian Holmes put on a five-star show as Bishopthorpe edged out Barmby Moor by three runs.
Needing seven to win from the last over bowled by Holmes, Moor managed just three runs and lost a couple of wickets. The Bishops’ skipper finished with 5-29.
Copmanthorpe lost ground at the top after being put in on a tricky wicket by Wheldrake who turned them over for just 67, veteran Les Fearn taking 4-8.
Heworth’s batsmen didn’t do much better, being bowled out for 86 by North Cave who were seen home by James Ferguson’s unbeaten 54.
Neil Atkinson finished on 83 not out as Kelfield totalled 173-5 against division two leaders Stockton & Hopgrove, who won after a 101-stand between Pete Thistleton (71) and Steve Fraser (49no).
Martin Reynolds top-scored with 90 as ten-man Ben Johnson recovered from 30-2 to amass 229-5 against Westow, whose reply ran out of steam after being 100-1 at one stage.
Fulfordgate beat North Duffield with ease with bowler Steve Bygott taking 5-24.
A second-wicket stand of 106 between Steve Whisker (70) and Edward Townend (40) was the key to Selby’s win against Askham Bryan after Colin Banks and Alex Bowden took four wickets each.
Sam Dunn followed his six-wicket haul of last week with 5-22 as Hirst Courtney thrashed Bishopthorpe II by 111 runs in division three. Brian Howard (91) and opening partner Phil Alford (56) put on 133 for the victors.
Dan Potter’s unbeaten 74 lifted Thixendale to a comfortable win against Welton & Brough, while John Littlewood’s 81 could not prevent Acomb losing to Woodhouse Grange’s youngsters.
Somehow Goole’s Mark Hinchcliffe finished on the losing side after his stunning return of 10.3-6-6-7 against Stillingfleet.
Gary Walker topped that with 11-4-11-8 as York RI beat Wheldrake II in division four.
Despite 5-24 by Askham Bryan II’s Afshin Kandampath Puthiyadath, Copmanthorpe II’s all-round team effort earned them victory.
Dan Fairclough (78no) led division five leaders Stockton & Hopgrove II to a narrow win against Selby II.
Burn II hammered the day’s biggest total – 320-3 – as Mark Webster (113) and Lee Adamson (92) figured in a massive opening stand against Thorp Arch & Boston Spa.
Gary Walker’s 8-11 for York RI is the best bowling return of the season to date
