FORMER policeman John Parker will be keeping HPH York Vale Cricket League on the straight and narrow this summer.
He’s been appointed league secretary – a role that has been vacant for more than a year.
The league, which boasts five divisions, has been without a secretary since Shane Hargrave stepped down at the end of the 2008 season after 26 years in the post. Hargrave is now the league’s vice-chairman.
Burnley-born Parker, 62, of Garth Close, Hambleton, moved to the York area in 1974. He spent 32 years in the police, reaching the rank of sergeant.
He played cricket for Selby Londesborough and umpires Burn’s first team matches.
Other new faces on the committee for the new season are Dave Milburn (Hemingbrough) and Ian Holmes (Bishopthorpe).
The new season starts on Saturday, April 24. Fixtures should be available at the end of February.
