BARMBY MOOR will begin the defence of the HPH Cup against York Vale Cricket League champions University of York Staff.
That’s the stand-out tie to emerge from the league’s cup draws made at Fulfordgate Working Men’s Club.
Moor, who will have home advantage, knocked Staff out of the competition last season, but the Uni went on to depose the 2008 champions in the race for the league title.
Newcomers York – the Clifton Park Club’s 5th XI – start their Premier Sports Cup campaign with a trip to Pocklington. Stockton & Hopgrove II host Drax, whose third team have also just been admitted to the league, in the same competition.
The league will operate a five by ten team structure for 2010.
Since last summer three teams have left the league and two have joined, prompting a reshuffle of the divisions.
The rationale used was to retain all teams who finished second from the bottom in 2009 in divisions one to four and promote third and in some cases fourth-placed teams into the higher division.
This will ensure that all teams are playing cricket each weekend throughout the season and eradicate some blank weekends which division five has experienced since 2007.
The 2010 league format: Division 1: University of York Staff, Clifton Alliance, Barmby Moor, Burn, Bishopthorpe, Hemingbrough, Wheldrake, Copmanthorpe, North Cave, Heworth.
Division 2: Fulfordgate, Ben Johnson, Westow, Kelfield, Askham Bryan, Ovington, North Duffield, Stockton & Hopgrove, Selby, Melbourne.
Division 3: Hirst Courtney, Thorpe Willoughby, Thixendale, Hemingbrough II, Stillingfleet, Acomb, Woodhouse Grange, Goole Town, Bishopthorpe II, Welton & Brough.
Division 4: Malton & Old Malton, Copmanthorpe II, Wheldrake II, Heworth II, Pocklington, Burton Salmon, Ovington II, York RI, Huntington, Askham Bryan II.
Division 5: Malton & Old Malton II, Stockton & Hopgrove II, Selby II, Burn II, Tadcaster Magnet, Thorpe Willoughby II, Carlton Towers, Thorp Arch & Boston Spa, Drax, York.
• Ian Holmes (Bishopthorpe) and Dave Milburn (Hemingbrough) have joined the league committee. Peter Fairclough (Stockton & Hopgrove) is also to be co-opted.
