STAMFORD Bridge and Yapham will contest the final of the York Vale League's Scothern Construction Cup at Hemingbrough on Sunday, August 20.

Bridge made light work of lower-ranked Burn II in their semi-final, while Yapham became the first team to beat Bishopthorpe this season.

Burn II were put in to bat against division two opponents Stamford Bridge and made a steady start, reaching 40 before the first wicket fell.

The introduction of Martin Veysey to the attack proved to be Burn’s undoing as he took 6-9 - all his wickets bowled.

Only Ray Adamson (16), Steve Cruise (18) and Dave Bramley (15) made double figures. Tom Fitzgerald took 2-11 also.

Bridge lost just one wicket and knocked the runs off in 17 overs as the gulf between the two sides showed. James Patrick made 32 and Tom Lawson 34 not out.

Yapham were patient on a difficult wicket against Bishopthorpe and accumulated runs steadily, reaching 66-3 at drinks, Angus Bindloss taking a couple of wickets.

Will Cardy (63) joined opener Craig Readhead (45) and they pushed up the run rate. There were contributions from Dan Isenstein (27) and Steve Hutchinson (16) as Yapham finished on 194-9.

Matthew Sharples acquitted himself well with 3-28 from nine overs, including removing Cardy’s middle stump. However he was the only bowler to go for less than four an over.

Yapham’s opening bowlers started with four successive maidens, plus a wicket in the first over. Tom Kirby bowled excellently to take 2-13 from six overs, and Cardy was equally impressive with 1-12 including three maidens.

Bish were struggling at 40-5, before Jamie Blackburn and Alex Jubb put on a partnership of 87. They were threatening to take the game away from Yapham before three wickets fell for no score, and things went Yapham’s way from there as the game ended in drizzle.

Sam Noble took 2-39 but the standout bowler was Dan Isenstein, who took 3-9 from four overs.
