JONTY MEGGINSON'S excellent half-century took Thixendale to victory in the final of the York Vale Cricket League's Scothern Construction Cup.

The 17-year-old stroked an unbeaten 58 as Dale defeated Yapham by three wickets with 2.3 overs to spare at The Gannock, home of Malton & Old Malton.

Yapham batted first and were dogged in their innings, as they progressed carefully, seeing off the opening bowlers with the loss of only one wicket at drinks.

The run-rate picked up afterwards, with Mark Fairey (60) well supported by Stephen Hutchinson (28), Alex Brown (20) and some big-hitting from Joe Franklin (19) as they closed on 189-7 from their 40 overs.

In reponse, Thixendale had a disastrous start, losing Geoff Room, Will Megginson and Joe Robinson cheaply to leave them struggling on 11-3.

However, Simon Walgate (74) pulled the innings around before man-of-the-match Jonty Megginson, who had bowled well earlier, stepped up to the plate with help from Wallis (18no) in an unbroken partnership of 51. Stephen Hutchinson took three wickets.
