WESTOW powered into the final of the Guy Mitchell Cup T20 competition with a crushing semi-final win against Askham Bryan.

Askham batted first in the HPH York Vale Cricket League knockout and were soon under pressure from Jamie Smith (3-19).

He ran through the top order with some excellent fast bowling, including the big wicket of the prolific Parag Mohite with his first ball.

That paved the way for young Jacob Stephenson (5-28) to pick up his first five-wicket haul for his new club as Askham were bowled out for 90.

Openers Mark Earle (39) and Andrew Welford (52) made light work off the chase and took Westow home inside the 13 overs.

Westow will meet Ben Johnson in the final at Pocklington on Sunday, August 14 after the printers were given a walkover by semi-final opponents South Cave & Brantingham.

Pocklington will also stage the Prendergast Memorial Cup (T20) final on the same date and it will feature Acomb, who eased past Ovington III in their semi-final.

The game was switched from Acomb to Ovington because of a fixture clash but the loss of home advantage did not prevent Acomb by winning at a canter.

Christian Burton took 3-33 as Ovington were restricted to 89-6 in their 20 overs.

Acomb captain Steve Lennox then stroked 30 to guide his side to a seven-wicket win in 16.4 overs, Mark Williamson weighing in with an unbeaten 28.
