STOCKTON & Hopgrove collapsed when they were in sight of the victory which would have lifted them off the foot of the division one table in the HPH York Vale Cricket League.

Set 154 to win by Ben Johnson, whose Steve Wragg scored 68, S&H slumped to 12-4 before a century partnership between Richard Kerrison (83) and his son, Jamie (38), put them in the driving seat. But from 136-6 wickets tumbled and the printers won by eight runs.

Bishopthorpe captain Ben Smith (101) scored his first hundred for the club as his side thumped Westow. He put on 151 for the first wicket with Mike Dale, who retired hurt on 49. Westow suffered a spectacular middle-order collapse, losing five wickets on 55, Andrew Seager taking 4-4

An understrength Melbourne were never in the contest with Ovington as they were bowled out for 98 and openers Tom Cookson (42no) and Craig Nicholl (47) virtually got the job done on their own with a stand of 97.

Wheldrake’s victory against Kelfield was based on a second-wicket stand of 111 between Anthony Carter (66) and Martin Lambert (43).

Clifton Alliance’s winning start to the division two campaign was ended by Acomb who replaced them at the top. Clifton were bowled out cheaply with Faharath Ansar having figures of 10-5-20-3 as all six Acomb bowlers got among the wickets. An unbroken half-century stand between Andy Ingle and Dan Watkinson earned Acomb a seven-wicket win.

Stillingfleet, whose Moreby ground was under water three weeks ago, finally played a home game and easily beat Hemingbrough. Phil Johnson scored 77 for the home side off 57 balls, including a 98-yard car window-destroying six.

Ovington II won a thrilling encounter by one wicket as they hunted down Hirst Courtney’s 161-9 in the final over. James Hinchcliffe (5-41) put Hirst in control before Jack Stearman’s 67 paved the way for skipper Ben Busby to smash the first ball of the last over for four to seal victory for Ovington. Busby has hit the winning runs in all of Ovington’s three victories this season.

South Cave & Brantingham skipper Sam Patchett earned his side victory against Askham Bryan with an unbeaten 104.

An unbroken ninth-wicket stand of 34 between teenager Will Pritchard and his father, Steve, snatched victory for Thorp Arch & Boston Spa against Burn II in division three.

Pocklington captain Simon Baty was caught off the last ball for 60 as his side total 167-7 against Dunnington in division four. Debutant Gary Wilson (9-2-32-5) demolished Dunnington’s middle and Owen Jones took 4-30, including a tripl-wicket maiden to see Pock win by 47 runs.

Adam Gibson, who took 4-14 from 12 overs and hit an unbeaten 40 was a class above anyone else as Tadcaster Magnet thumped Malton & Old Malton II by 10 wickets.
