BISHOPTHORPE picked up their second successive six-wicket win of the season to move clear at the top of HPH York Vale Cricket League division one.

Stockton & Hopgrove collapsed from 85-5 to 93 all out as Bishopthorpe’s seam bowlers shared the wickets. Andy Kenny was the pick with 4-19 while Ian Holmes (3-16) and Scott Reeves (3-34) also did plenty of damage.

Bishopthorpe were 38-4, but once they had seen off Dan Fairclough (3-21) they wrapped up victory without any further alarms.

Ben Smith finished unbeaten on 27 not out and Andrew Seager (21no) completed the victory with a straight six.

Melbourne had too much power for Kelfield, running out easy 80-run winners.

Oliver Steels (57) and Tim Blackmore (40) provided the backbone of Melbourne’s 190-8 despite the efforts of Ryan Lorryman (5-54). Chris Walker (47no) led Kelfield’s reply but ran out of partners as they slid from 103-5 to 110 all out, Malcolm Harrison finishing with 4-32.

Because of injuries, Wheldrake could only field nine men at Burn but Anthony Carter (68) and skipper Martin Lambert (35) managed to get Wheldrake up to 161-6.

Burn lost opener Leigh Adamson for a duck but Rob Webster (64) pushed them to the brink of victory which was sealed by an unbeaten 35 by Jamie Bingle.

With the sodden Knavesmire out of commission, Ovington II reversed their division two fixture with Askham Bryan, emerging three-wicket victors in a thriller at Heslington Lane.

Askham’s Parag Mohite (92) looked set for a century before top-edging 13-year-old leg-spinner Jacob Lamb to teenage wicketkeeper Tim Burgess. Jamie Holliday (29no) added late runs to take Askham to 149-6.

A hostile opening spell by Askham captain James McCullough (2-33) put Ovington on the backfoot. Liam Herringshaw (31) rebuilt the innings but Ovington were second best at 97-7 with seven overs remaining.

Ben Busby (27no) and teenager Dom Everard (22no) led the counter-attack with a match-winning partnership of 55, claiming the win with two balls to spare.

Hirst Courtney won at Hemingbrough by 35 runs, opener Phil Alford leading the way for the visitors with 72, supported by Gareth Knight (32) and Jake Wild (30).

Hemingbrough had to chase down 166 and cousins David Howard (35) and Leo Howard were on track before the former fell to Marcus Thandi.

The middle order failed and left Leo Howard, who batted on despite a broken nose, stranded on 53 not out as Wild, who returned 10-1-19-4, earned Hirst victory.

Acomb bowler Faharath Ansar returned to cricket in sensational style after a year off as he took a wicket with his first delivery and finished with 6-32 as Malton & Old Malton were knocked over for just 91.

Acomb cruised home by eight wickets thanks to an unbeaten 70-run partnership between Paul Hemingway (44no) and Mark Williamson (24no).

Clifton Alliance beat nine-man Stillingfleet by three wickets with Richard Marshall the match-winner. He took 3-15, supported by Josh Bean (3-37), as Fleet were bowled out for 111. Chris Warner (3-39) and Chris Woodfine (3-45) kept the visitors in the game, but Marshall’s unbeaten 42 saw Alliance home.
