TEENAGER Will Osborne scored a superb century as Ovington II won the HPH York Vale League's Prendergast Memorial Cup in style.

The division two side were never in any real danger in the final against battling Thorpe Willoughby, who ply their trade in two divisions below.

Ovington, last season's beaten finalists, lost the the toss and were asked to bat on an overcast day at The Gannock, Malton.

Opener Hussain Ahmed immediately showed his intentions, hitting two fours in the first over. He continued his pinch-hitting style while getting a couple of lives when dropped on 24 and 62. Ahmed finally fell to Nigel Huggins for a quick-fire 86.

He was joined in the 16th over by Will Osborne, who rotated the strike well before taking a leading role in Ovington's innings with a chanceless and stylish 104 not out.

It was the 16-year-old's maiden century and he was given good support by his team-mates, two of whom fell to run-outs trying to get him on strike in the final overs.

Osborne secured his century with the penultimate ball of the innings as Ovington closed on 248-5. The highlight of the innings from Thorpe's view was a direct hit run-out from mid-off by Jordan Leybourn.

Thorpe, in their first final for many years, began their response well enough with openers Steve Golton and Sam Hinch reaching 32 in eight overs before the accurate Richard Buckley (5-2-7-1) was introduced.

The pacy Ahmed (10-4-17-1) built pressure and both openers departed in successive overs. The trio of Buckleys - Richard, Harry and birthday boy Charlie - accounted for five wickets in all, while the pick of Ovington's bowlers was Ben Svenson, who claimed four victims in his nine overs of swing bowling as Thorpe were bowled out for 118, Tony Hinch top scoring with 22
