MELBOURNE skipper Harry Collins will be the big winner at the HPH York Vale Cricket League awards dinner on Saturday.

He led his side to the division two title and also won the Les Kirby Trophy for most wickets in the season and the divisional bowling award for the best average.

Collins captured 49 league and cup wickets in 2014 with his league average being a miserly 6.35.

Team-mate Matt Beevers also retained the Harry Smith Wicketkeeping Award with 26 victims.

It has been a great season for Melbourne who will be playing in the top division next year for the first time since joining the league in 1999.

Westow captain Mark Earle was the runaway winner of the Les Kirby Trophy for batting. His tally of 702 runs was nearly 200 more than his nearest rival in a rain-hit summer. He had a stunning July, scoring 101, 213 and 111 in consecutive innings, figures which helped earn him the second division batting average award.

North Cave secured the division one title with all-rounder Mike Stellings landing the divisional batting award with an average of 92.67. Cave also won the Guy Mitchell Cup.

Runners-up Bishopthorpe saw Ian Holmes win the divisional bowling award for the second successive year. The Bishops also won the HPH Cup with their second team taking the Scothern Construction Cup – the first time that double has been achieved.

Division three winners Wheldrake also claimed a silverware double by lifting the Prendergast Memorial Trophy, wicketkeeperbatsman Antony Carter winning the divisional batting prize with a 107.33 average.

The winners of the Scothern Construction Club of the Year, Raven Young Player of the Year, Club Tea of the Year and the latest inductee into the league’s Hall of Fame will be unveiled on the night.

The dinner will be at the Park Inn by Radisson and will be hosted by BBC Radio York’s Adam Tomlinson and cricket fan Graham Orange, the voice of Go Racing In Yorkshire, who is a level-two ECB coach.
