WILL RYMER joined the HPH York Vale Cricket League elite on Saturday by scoring a double century.

The 19-year-old became only the fourth player to hit a double ton in the league when he caned 208 for Heworth II in the 173-run win against Thorpe Willoughby II in division four.

His innings was a club record, as was his partnership of 199 with Will Etty (31). Rymer’s blitz included 24 boundaries and nine sixes. He followed Naser Mahmood (Selby II) 217 v Thorpe Willoughby II in August 2013, Mark Earle (Westow) 213 v Heworth II earlier this season and Matt Clark (Hemingbrough) 211no v Clifton Alliance in August 2011 into the record books.

Malton & Old Malton II’s slender promotion hopes nosedived as they crashed from 44-1 to 94 at Stamford Bridge. Malt hit back to have Bridge 8-3 thanks to Kieran Windress (3-13), but Harry Vann (44no) and Rob Gilyeat (32no) secured a six-wicket win.

The top three in division one all won comfortably which means Ovington will retain the title if they win at Kelfield on Saturday.

North Cave completed their fixtures by hammering North Duffield with Mike Stellings blasting an unbeaten 153 from 111 balls, sharing a second-wicket stand of 179 with Charlie Cockin.

James Windeatt also blasted an unbeaten 50 – 31 coming in one over bowled by Paul Johnson, who top-scored for Duffield with 52.

Tom Ashby (101 ret) hit his second century against Fulfordgate this summer as Ovington swept aside the division’s bottom club to keep the destiny of the title in their own hands.

Scott Clapham maintained his outstanding form with an unbeaten 119 as Bishopthorpe won at Burn and could yet win the title if Ovington slip up at Kelfield.

Melbourne will win division two if they win at Selby on Saturday. They took another stride towards silverware with an easy win against Westow which featured an unbeaten 52 from A J Clarke.

Ben Johnson kept up their hopes of pipping Wheldrake by crushing Selby, where a fourth-wicket partnership of 96 between Paul Anderson (66no) and Martin Reynolds (55) put them in control. Selby were rolled over for just 71, Steve Wragg swinging the ball to take 5-21.

Askham Bryan bowler Paul Thornton continued his prolific summer with 6-26 in the thumping of South Cave & Brantingham.

Clifton Alliance claimed their third win over Heworth this year as Allan Barton (66) and a maiden half-century for youngster Jamie Butt (51) saw them overhaul Heworth’s 182-8, which featured 74 from Matt Huffer.

Thorpe Willoughby chalked up their sixth successive win in division three by routing Acomb by 221 runs. Andy Kirk (85) and Ross Powell (65) put on 105 for the second wicket before Dave Watson produced figures of 8.2-3-17-6 to skittle a young Acomb outfit for 59.
